Who Am I?

Profile Image

I’m a web developer with an interest in building the most efficient web applications out there. Over the course of my two years at DMACC, I became proficient in php, js/jQuery, git, MySQL, css/scss, html, and CMS frameworks WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla!. Also, through the years, I have learned how to efficiently and effectively search online and read documentation, in so that I can learn the correct way to accomplish tasks.

In my finishing semester at DMACC, I had the privilege of serving an internship at OSTraining. During my time there, I refined my skills in php where all of the code was written in object oriented style. I also gained valuable skills in workflow management with git, and learning how to communicate with other teammates effectively.

When I’m not on the job, I love being outside, fiddling with my guitar, and diving into a good book. I also enjoy learning new tools that are up and coming in my field, to see if there is something that could make what I do more efficient.

Wright County Health Department Website
Wright County Public Health
Skills Used:
php, js/jquery, css, html, Drupal

This was the first site that I made in Drupal. I ended making a mock-up of the site in html and css, and then turning that into a theme for Drupal. I enjoyed the extensiveness of Drupal, but I’m not afraid to write my own custom functionality with php. I ended up not liking the functionality of Drupal’s contact form, and made my own. This was definitely one of the bigger sites that I’ve done. That being said, I definitely gained experience of what it’s like working with a client, and making sure to meet all of the client’s needs so they can be satisfied with the final product.

So after making PowellGuitar’s website, I really wanted to learn how to make a custom themes, plugins, and widgets in WordPress. That being said, that’s exactly what I did. I started with a base theme called underscores, and if I wanted some kind of different functionality, I achieved that with php. Besides the theme, I have a custom post type of events. I then made a widget, that displays on all pages of the site of the next 3 upcoming events. Everything else is just css and html to get it to make it look the way I wanted.

This was the first site that I made in WordPress. This gave me the feel for how WordPress works, and how it achieves things. I did purchase a theme for this website, but when I got the theme, there was definitely some things that I didn’t quite like with the look and feel of the site, mostly the responsiveness. I ended up making a changes to the appearance of the theme, so it fit my expectations.

Recipe Project
Recipe Project
Skills Used:
js/jQuery(ajax), json, php, html

This recipe project is 100% dynamic when it comes to creating nodes of recipes. What really is going on here, is that I have php outputting information from my database in json format, and then with ajax, I have javascript grabbing that file and dynamically creating new recipes with it. Then after each recipe is showing its respected image, if you click on the image, it will dynamically drop down the information associated with that recipe. I have also, with php, set up a user-interface to add new recipes.

Sample CMS
Skills Used:
php, bootstrap, html

These are all the works of the Advanced php, boiled into one sample cms. To quickly help you understand what is all there, I created a basic search form, the ability to report database information, validate form elements, REST widgets, use of apache's mod_rewrite module to rewrite the url, and encrypt passwords with hashing. I also wrote the php in OOP, and in MVC structure.

Form Validator
Form Validator
Skills Used:
php, js/jQuery, bootstrap, html

This form validation is both in the back-end and the front-end for a better user experience. The front-end uses jQuery, and it validates on key up of the user, but only if the user has first focused out of the form element. Also for security reasons, I also created a back-end validation with php, which was written object oriented and MVC format.
